1. Provider and contact details
The service provider and contracting party is Ezrick Evon Saunders, a sole trader trading as The Legal Desk (“The Legal Desk”, “we”, “us” or “our”).
Business address: Office 1, 14-16 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JN, United Kingdom. Email: contact@thelegaldesk.co.uk.
The Legal Desk is not a firm of solicitors or a set of chambers and is not authorised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Bar Standards Board. The separate Client Status Statement explains the provider’s position and the protections that do not apply.
2. What these terms cover
These terms apply to services bought directly from The Legal Desk. They include, where expressly identified in an Order Summary:
- legal issue triage and written assessments;
- document or contract review;
- legal research, chronologies, evidence schedules and briefing packs;
- drafting letters or documents where the work is not a reserved legal activity;
- permitted McKenzie Friend assistance or eligible small-claims lay representation, subject to the additional conditions on the Court Support page; and
- professional signposting or an introduction where regulated work may be required.
Only work set out in the accepted Order Summary is included. General website information, an enquiry, use of the suitability checker or preparation of an intake summary does not create a client relationship and is not advice on which you should rely.
3. Scope and service boundaries
The Legal Desk accepts only work that it considers lawful, suitable and within its competence. Unless an Order Summary expressly states a permitted court-support role, we do not:
- conduct litigation, issue or serve proceedings, sign court documents as your representative, go on the court record or accept service for you;
- exercise a right of audience or appear as an advocate;
- undertake reserved instrument, probate or notarial activities, administer oaths, or provide regulated immigration advice or services;
- hold client money, settlement funds or money on account other than payment of our own invoice through a payment provider;
- guarantee acceptance by a court, regulator or third-party professional; or
- guarantee any result, recovery, settlement or saving.
A service may be declined, narrowed or stopped if information later shows that it crosses a regulatory boundary, involves a conflict, falls outside competence, creates an unacceptable deadline or risk, or requires an authorised professional.
4. Enquiry, acceptance and contract formation
After receiving your information, we may ask questions, request documents, carry out identity or conflict checks, or decline the matter. Sending information does not oblige us to accept the work.
Before payment you will be shown or sent an Order Summary identifying the client, service, question or task, material supplied, output, exclusions, fixed fee and expected delivery date. You will also be given links to these terms, the Client Status Statement and Privacy Notice.
You accept electronically by completing the required confirmations and paying the quoted fee. The system records the version of each client document, the time of acceptance, your cancellation-period choice, the case reference and the order reference. A contract is formed only when we issue an order acceptance or confirmation. An automated payment receipt alone does not confirm that the matter has been accepted. If payment is taken but the matter cannot be accepted, it will be refunded to the original payment method.
5. Fees and payment
Standard services are paid in full before work begins. Prices are in pounds sterling. The Order Summary will state whether VAT applies. We will not add work or fees without your agreement.
For online orders, the price is selected from the server-side service record rather than accepted from the customer’s browser. Stripe Checkout receives the same case and order references. Payment is treated as confirmed only after a signed Stripe notification is matched to that order and its amount and currency; returning to a success page by itself is not proof of payment.
Third-party expenses—such as court fees, travel, accommodation, printing, courier charges or fees charged by another professional—are not included unless the Order Summary expressly says otherwise. Any proposed expense will be identified for approval before it is incurred.
A regulated solicitor, barrister or other professional introduced to you contracts and charges separately. The Legal Desk does not accept payment on that professional’s behalf.
6. Delivery and turnaround
The standard turnaround is five business days from the latest of:
- our acceptance of the order;
- cleared payment; and
- receipt of all information and readable documents reasonably required for the agreed work.
A business day is Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays in England and Wales. If clarification, more documents or a changed scope is required, the delivery period may pause. If we need a different date, we will email you with a revised date.
Court attendance, urgent work and services dependent on a third party use the date stated in the individual Order Summary instead of the standard turnaround.
7. Your responsibilities and deadlines
You must provide complete, accurate and legible information, disclose material facts even if they may be unhelpful, identify all relevant parties, and tell us immediately about any limitation date, hearing, court order, appeal date or other deadline.
The Legal Desk is not a deadline-protection or emergency service. We do not monitor a matter after delivering the agreed work. You remain responsible for filing, service, compliance with orders, attendance, limitation and taking any required action unless an authorised provider has expressly accepted that responsibility in a separate retainer.
If a deadline may expire within seven days, seek an authorised solicitor or appropriate regulated professional immediately rather than waiting for this service.
8. Nature and use of the work
Work is based on the information and documents identified in the Order Summary and on the law reasonably understood at the date shown on the output. An assessment may change if facts, evidence, law or procedure change.
The output is prepared for the named client and agreed purpose. You may share it with a regulated professional instructed on the same matter. You must not publish it, sell it, remove qualifications or rely on it for another transaction or person without written permission.
Professional signposting is not a guarantee or endorsement. Any introduced provider makes an independent decision whether to accept you, and you should check that provider’s authorisation, expertise, terms, insurance and fees.
9. Consumer cancellation rights
If you are a consumer buying at a distance, you will normally have 14 days from contract formation to cancel. The checkout will let you either wait until that period ends or expressly request that the service starts earlier.
If you request an early start and then cancel before completion, you may be charged a proportionate amount for work supplied up to cancellation. If the service is fully performed during the cancellation period after your express request and acknowledgement, you may lose the right to cancel that service.
To cancel, email contact@thelegaldesk.co.uk with your name, order number and an unambiguous statement that you wish to cancel. These provisions do not reduce any statutory rights you have where a service is not supplied with reasonable care and skill or as agreed.
10. Changes, cancellation and refunds
If you ask for work beyond the agreed scope, we may quote a further fixed fee and delivery date. There is no obligation to accept additional work.
We may end the service on written notice where continuing would be unlawful, misleading, unsafe, outside competence, affected by a conflict, or impossible because required information or cooperation has not been provided. Where we end for reasons that are not your fault, we will refund the fee for work not supplied. Where work of value has already been supplied, a fair proportion may be retained where legally permitted.
Any refund will normally be made to the original payment method. Payment-provider processing times are outside our control.
11. Confidentiality, privilege and data
We treat client information as confidential and disclose it only as needed to provide the service, with your authority, or where required or permitted by law. Our Privacy Notice explains how personal information and documents are handled.
Case documents must be uploaded through the designated secure case route. General contact email is used for notifications and ordinary service questions, not as the case-document repository. Your passwordless case link is personal to you and must not be shared.
You must not assume that communications with The Legal Desk are protected by legal advice privilege. There is a substantial risk that privilege will not apply to advice from an unregulated provider. If privilege is material, obtain advice from an authorised solicitor or practising barrister before disclosing sensitive information.
12. Responsibility and legal rights
We will provide an accepted service with reasonable care and skill and within the agreed scope. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing affects mandatory consumer rights.
We are not responsible for a loss caused by inaccurate, incomplete or late information; an action taken outside the agreed scope; a missed deadline that we did not expressly accept responsibility for; a change in law or facts after delivery; or the independent act or decision of a court, regulator, opposing party or third-party professional, except to the extent the law makes us responsible.
13. Complaints
Please use the procedure on the Complaints page. A complaint will normally be acknowledged within five business days and receive a substantive written response within 20 business days.
The Legal Ombudsman does not have jurisdiction over these unregulated services. The Client Status Statement explains the limited circumstances in which a report may be made to the Bar Standards Board.
14. General terms
If any term is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue. A delay in enforcing a right does not waive it. No person other than you and The Legal Desk may enforce this contract, except where the law provides otherwise.
We may update these terms for future orders. The version supplied and accepted with your Order Summary governs that order unless a change is agreed in writing.
These terms and the contract are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory right a consumer has to bring proceedings elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
